Billie Eilish appeared on Saturday Night Live for the third time last night and sang her Barbie song “What Was I Made For?” accompanied by her brother, Finneas, on piano. The track was introduced by director Greta Gerwig and host Kate McKinnon, who also featured in a few musical sketches with Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig. Eilish also covered the Judy Garland holiday standard “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Watch clips from the episode below.

On top of her two songs, Eilish also performed in the folky musical sketch “Tampon Farm” and “Whiskers R We,” a bit where she and McKinnon helmed a cat shelter in matching glasses and perms. Eilish’s guest slot follows recent appearances from Olivia Rodrigo, Noah Kahan, Tate McRae, and Boygenius. Eilish last visited Saturday Night Live in 2021, when she served as both host and musical guest. She made her debut on the show in 2019 alongside host Woody Harrelson.

Christian McBride joined Eilish and Finneas on stand-up bass for “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” In a statement, McBride said, “Playing on SNL was a total thrill. Billie Eilish has become one of my favorite people to work with, and her entire family are the kindest people. Also, seeing everyone in the SNL band—many of whom are my good friends—was like a family reunion.”

“What Was I Made For?” is nominated for five awards at the 2024 Grammy Awards: Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Song Written for Visual Media, and Best Music Video. It’s also nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Song for a Motion Picture. During her SNL debut of “What Was I Made For?,” Eilish performed in front of a montage footage past and present of various Saturday Night Live cast members.
