Los Angeles harpist and composer Nailah Hunter has signed to Fat Possum and announced a new album. Her debut LP, Lovegaze, comes out on the label on January 12. The album’s lead single, “Finding Mirrors,” comes with a Dillon Howl–directed music video in which Hunter wanders through the sunlit woods while carrying a white carnation until darkness falls and she becomes possessed. Watch it below.

“Of all the tracks on the record, it is the most purposeful departure from the comfort I found in making ambient music in the past,” Hunter said of “Finding Mirrors” in a press statement. “Letting the song exist in the form that it came to me was a healing reminder that I can make anything I want to. The song is about seeing yourself without warning.”

Inspired by folk and ambient music, Lovegaze is Hunter’s first proper full-length, following 2019’s “Apple, Maple, Willow” and a succession of EPs: Spells, Quietude, and Forest Dwelling.
